SEL 101, 102, 103 and 003 have been developed as fully online courses, they also emphasize a participatory approach, incorporating (SECD) philosophy, activities and strategies into the classroom, counseling, and after-school groups as well as for oneself as a learner. There are unit completion due dates for assignments in order to:
- Move students through each unit and the course together while also providing the flexibility of an online course
- Build and develop an SECD learning community and enhance Live Chat discussions.
Live Chat discussions are essential and mandatory in each of our courses. Live Chats build community and enhance online learning. Live Chat dates/times are noted within courses by the instructor. They are 1 hour in duration; all must attend typically in the evening.
All correspondence and discussions will take place online via threaded discussions, comment and drop boxes and email with occasional synchronous discussions (Live Chats). You will be notified via email or within the course when synchronous discussions will take place. A headset for Live Chats is required. We recommend a KOSS SB45 Communications Headset or a KOSS CS100 USBn Communications Headset.
SEL 101 and 102 are offered at various times throughout the year, whereas SEL 103 and 003 Practicum courses are only offered during the school year (September - June). Please read the course descriptions below and the registration page for more details.
All readings are within each course; no text book is required for the General Track Courses
