Eligibility to Enroll in the General Track Program

What is the criteria to enroll in the 101 course?

  • You must have ONE of the following:
    • hold an undergraduate degree (Bachelor's or Associate's degree) or higher
    • OR be currently enrolled in a college/university with 60 credits or more
    • OR currently have 60 college/university credit

What is the criteria to enroll in the 102 course?

  • Successful completion of the 101 course (to be corroborated with the course instructor).
  • Approval code from your 101 course instructor indicating successful completion.

What is the criteria to enroll in the General Practicum (103 course)?

  • Must be emplyed by a school, after school program OR be able to have access to the same group of students for a period of 12/15 weeks so that you can deliver weekly SECD action plans.
  • Successful completion of SEL 101 and 102 sequentially (corroborated with instructor).
    • detailed action plan as described in course 102
    • approval code given by your 102 course instructor indicating successful completion.
  • Have access to a computer that can access our Canvas site.
  • Submit a signed letter on letterhead from a school principal, director, supervisor and/or other appropriate school/program administrator" acknowledging you would be participating in the practicum and will support you as you deliver your action plan directly to students.     • This letter is only to notify your principal/supervisor or school/program administrator that you will be implementing your detailed action plan with your students.  They will NOT have to act in the role of your practicum supervisor.
  • We recommended that you first submit the appropriate documentation and wait for confirmation and notification of acceptance via email or phone before registering for this course. Otherwise, you may be deregistered.

What is the criteria to enroll in the General Alternate Practicum (003 course)?

  • Must be emplyed by a school, after school program OR be able to have access to the same group of students for a period of 12/15 weeks so that you can deliver weekly SECD action plans.
  • Successful completion of SEL 101 and 102 face-to-face live version sequentially corroborated with:

    • detailed action plan as described in course 102
  • Submit a signed letter on letterhead from a school principal, director or supervisor acknowledging you would be participating in the practicum and will support you as you deliver your action plan directly to students. Eligibility to Enroll in the Accelerated Track Program for Instruction

1) What is the criteria to enroll in the Accelerated Program for Instruction (401 course)?

You must:

  • hold an undergraduate degree (Bachelor's or Associate's degree) or higher.
  • Currently teach SECD directly to students in a consistent and intentional approach for 5+ years to students (i.e. teacher, school counselor, school psychologist / social worker etc).
  • OR Successfully taught Social-Emotional and character development programming successfully in your classroom, counseling sessions or after-school program for 5+ years directly to students.
  • OR have successfully taught and integrated skills and/or traits of SECD in a consistent and intentional approach for 5+ years to students in an after or out of school setting (i.e. Yoga, Mindfulness, Dance, etc)  Documents will need to show how skills and/or traits were intentionally integrated into your activity in a consistent and intentional approach for 5+ years.

  1. Resume/CV - Documenting/listing 5+ years of consistent and intentional SECD teaching experience (please see below for specifics)
  2. A signed letter on letterhead - From a school principal, director, supervisor and/or other appropriate school/program administrator" acknowledging your 5+ years SECD instruction experience and that you are applying to take the courses.  This is NOT a letter of personal recommendation. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.   The letter from the appropriate administrator will acknowledge and verify that you have taught SECD directly to students in a sustained and intentional approach for 5+ years.  This is NOT a letter of personal recommendation.

3) Wait for confirmation email noting next steps (either acceptance into the Accelerated Program or General Track Program).

 Resume specifics: 

  • Name, current position
  • Previous education
  • Job experiences
  • SECD teaching experiences AND dates: this should include specific names of programs taught and/or skills and traits taught or integrated into content area/s.  
  • How often you met with students to teach SECD lessons/integrated lessons; 1 time per week?  2 times per week? etc
  • What grade levels you taught SECD directly to students
  • SECD teaching approach

We will not be able to accept you into the Accelerated Program without documentation showing your 5+ years of SECD TEACHING experience.  

We recommended that you check your eligibility status, submit the appropriate documentation and wait for confirmation and notification of acceptance via email. 

This course needs a minimum of 5 students to run.  If the minimum is not reached by the start date noted, then the start date will be pushed to a later date.

The criteria to enroll in the Accelerated Practicum Course (402 course) are as follows:

  • Successful completion of the Accelerated Course (SEL 401, to be corroborated with the course instructor).
  • Appropriate approval code
