Professor Torres’ Sensory Motor Integration Lab has linked the genetic disorders Fragile X and SHANK3 deletion syndrome – both related to autism and health problems – to walking patterns by examining the microscopic movements of those wearing motion-sensored sneakers.

The paper, “Optimal Time Lags from Causal Prediction Model Help Stratify and Forecast Nervous System Pahology” was published in Nature Scientific Reports as a collaborative effort among Rutgers, Stevens Institute of Technology and Columbia University. Leading author is Theodoros Bermperidis and co-authors of the Rutgers Team are Richa Rai and former student Dr. Jihye Ryu.
