Regular participation in physical activity is critical to support healthy aging. This award will support a 5-year randomized clinical trial to test the efficacy of a novel cognitive-behavioral intervention to reduce fear during exercise: Behavioral Exposure For Interoceptive Tolerance (BE-FIT). The goal is to evaluate whether BE-FIT reduces exercise-related anxiety, and in turn, increases physical activity among adults attending cardiac rehabilitation. The project will be conducted in conjunction with the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Rutgers faculty including Drs. Teresa Leyro (Psychology), Brandon Alderman (Exercise Science), Angelo DiBello (Center for Alcohol Studies/GSAPP), and Michael Steinberg (RWJ Dept of Medicine).
