The REHAB Lab tested a brief, self-guided intervention to see if it could help relieve students’ distress during COVID-19. The digital intervention, called Values Affirmation for Behavioral Activation (VABA), aimed to help students by identifying and affirming their own personal values and then increasing engagement in positive activities. Results were very promising, with the intervention producing an immediate boost in a positive mood for students and promoting more engagement in follow-up positive activities. A presentation of the preliminary findings received an award for Outstanding Student Abstract from the Society of Behavioral Medicine Theories and Techniques of Behavior Change Intervention special interest group.
