Dr. Elliot J. Coups earned his PhD in the Rutgers Social/Health Psychology Program in 2003 having worked with Drs. Richard Contrada and Gretchen Chapman, among other faculty as well as student collaborators. He held research positions at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Medical Center and Fox Chase Cancer Center before joining the Rutgers faculty where he was a full member of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Associate Professor of Medicine at the RWJ Medical School, and of Health Education and Behavioral Science in the Rutgers School of Public Health. Elliot was a prolific health scientist and a loved and respected colleague and family member until his untimely death in July 2020. Elliot was an active member of several scientific associations, including the Society of Behavioral Medicine, which created the Elliot J. Coups Improving Health through Behavioral Medicine Award to acknowledge contributions to any phase of translational work, in line with the work Elliot did to address skin cancer prevention.
