Dr. Joe Simmons, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania

Friday, May 04, 2018, 01:30pm - 03:30pm

Dr. Joe Simmons is the author of False Positive Psychology, one of the papers that shook the foundations of empirical psychology and helped precipitate what some have called The Replication Crisis, and, subsequently, a nascent Psychological Science Reform Movement.  In that paper, he and his collaborators showed that, using methods common in much psychological research at the time, it was possible to show that listening to the Beatles reduced people's actual age (p<.05) -- testifying not to the malleability of age, but to the deficiencies in psychological research practices.
