Emily Rosenbaum

Graduation Year: 2018

Major(s) and Minor:  Major: Psychology; Minor: Sociology

How did you decide on your major?

I always found psychology to be a fascinating area of study and I knew that there were many different disciplines within the field of psychology.

What is it about your chosen field (and the department) that appeals to you?

I transferred from County College of Morris and I always knew that I wanted to finish my education at Rutgers University. I knew that the psychology department offered various opportunities to undergraduate students such as internship placements and lab research experience. With guidance from faculty in the psychology department, I was able to gain internship experience at University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC).

Do you have a favorite class/professor within your major?

I have a few favorite classes that I took here at Rutgers! I enjoyed Personality Psychology with Dr. Lyra Stein. I also enjoyed Introduction to Clinical and School Psychology which is taught by Dr. Karen Skean and Dr. Brooke Zumas. Both of these classes furthered my interest in pursuing Clinical Psychology.

What are your favorite academic experiences outside of your major?

I enjoyed all of the classes that I took in order to complete my sociology minor. Another academic experience I have enjoyed at Rutgers, is the opportunity to be an undergraduate teaching assistant. I have been an undergraduate teaching assistant for Dr. Lyra Stein's Abnormal Psychology class as well as her Personality Psychology class.

What are your other Rutgers activities?

I am a Transfer Student Mentor for the School of Arts and Sciences. I enjoy welcoming transfer students into the Rutgers community because I know what it feels like to be in their shoes.  In addition, I am also a research assistant for the Regulation Action & Motivated Perception (RAMP) lab. I am so grateful for this opportunity because it has allowed for me to learn so much about the research aspect of psychology.

What are your plans following graduation?

I plan on applying to graduate school and furthering my education. I am interested in obtaining a doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
