In 2006, I received my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and joined the faculty of Rutgers. I am a member of both the Clinical Psychology area group and the Health Psychology program. My research focuses on the development and refinement of treatments to help people stop smoking cigarettes. As part of this research program, I study the psychological changes that people experience leading up to and during an attempt to quit smoking and ways in which treatments do (or do not) affect these experiences.

I have particular interest in identifying mediators of treatment effects as part of a strategy for enhancing smoking cessation treatments. In my research, I strive to articulate and test hypotheses regarding the factors that maintain addictive drug use while at the same time testing hypotheses regarding ways interventions can alter these factors to reduce the risk of cessation failure or relapse. My aim is to identify ways to improve treatments by gathering empirical support for models of addiction and its treatment.
